A Gloucestershire Thai restaurant has taken the top prize at the FreeFrom Eating Out Awards at a glittering ceremony in London.
Bangkok Canteen, located on Westgate Street, won the gold award in the Focus on Gluten category at the ExCeL on Tuesday night.
The Focus on Gluten category, new for 2017, recognises establishments of any kind that have focused on providing safe gluten-free options for those eating out.
The Bangkok Canteen serves an entire menu of gluten free dishes made from scratch and the nomination is even more impressive as they only opened in 2016. They were also the first Thai restaurant in the UK to do a whole menu gluten free.
Owner Kittima Manmaunjun said: “We are really happy as it’s a national award and it’s brilliant to see the industry recognising us. We do a traditional menu with local produce and were over the moon to win. We have been working hard since we opened last year and it’s great to see the hard work pay off.”
Best restaurant
This is the second accolade the Bangkok Canteen has won in under a month as they were also named the best restaurant in the county at the Taste of Gloucestershire Awards in October.
The restaurant serves authentic Thai dishes, minus wheat, rye and barley, including seabass green curry, tamarind duck and tofu sweet and sour. There is also a vegan specific menu, complete with vegan beer, ale and bitters.
